So, Christmas is around the corner, after that New Year is here and we all know what that means, party season!!

Disco BallWhen you are facing the season with a wider load than most, it might be easy to say “oh I’m busy that night” and escape off home to watch some Christmas special accompanied by Mr Ben’s and Mr Jerry’s…But wait…go to that party I say!  Have some fun, shake your thing and generally mash it up!! (My scouts will never forgive me for saying ‘mash it up’).

We can’t all be wall flowers and we can’t all be the life and soul of the party, so finding your niche is important in office politics. The Christmas party is a great place to meet other departments, spot a really fanciable new colleague in the ‘civvies’ and to get a few drinks in on the company time.

If I was an office sort of girl I would have been planning an outfit for months, but as it is I work with people who are in party mode from Halloween to Easter, with a few special occasions thrown in somewhere just for fun, I can just dust off a costume and head on over.

I can remember being taken to my parents office (family) parties when I was young and by the time we got there we all looked as dishevelled as we did when mum was battling our hair into pigtails, but we still remember them well.

So if you are in need of some moral party support, here goes:

  1. Always be comfortable in what ever outfit you want to wear, if it's fancy dress, do it anyway, you may as well be laughed at for wearing a tutu!
  2. Never wear a new pair of shoes to a party without trying them for at least an hour first, even if that hour is to take the rubbish out or do the hovering (this goes for the chaps too, new shoes hurt. That’s final.)
  3. Always go with a buddy, preferably someone who is also ‘rotund’ so that you can bitch about the skinny temp from accounting or lust after the new ad exec together…
  4. Get a taxi home, that way you can’t have an accidental detour to the pizza place, but if you are really starving when you get home, just throw on a pair of PJ’s and order one anyway!! You never know who will deliver it!

PartySo, now you have the golden rules of party season, you can dance all night and get jiggy with it in the cupboard with the post room boys, I say boys as we all know large ladies can handle more than one thing at a time!!

Not only that, but be safe, be sensible and always know when enough is enough, but please, have fun!!

Don’t forget to stick with one type of drink as mixing them will always end in multi-coloured bathroom decoration and we wouldn’t want a very expensive dress to get ruined, it takes years for blind African weavers to make one this size you know…

Ahem…..sorry!!
