New Plus Size Clothing Range

Carolyn de la Drapiere RangeA new plus size clothing range for women will be launched this month and from what we've seen so far it might be just what us larger ladies are looking for.  The range looks like it will fit neatly into the gap we all know about, plus sized chic.  There's no polyester in site thank-goodness, they set out to source only natural fibres, primarily from France and Germany.

Carolyn invites you to the launch of the new plus size label , 'Carolyn de la Drapiere', which will be held on Wednesday the 13th of May, 6-8pm, at the Old Sorting Office, Barnes, London, SW13 0LF.

Injection to Mimic Stomach Surgery

Patients who have undergone gastric bypasses are shown to lose weight not only because their stomach is smaller, but also because of a reduction in key hormones.

It was revealed at the BA Festival of Science, in Liverpool, this week, that a new injection will be available within 5 years which mimics the effects of stomach surgery, reducing these hormones, which could be great news for the big among us, even more so for anyone who also has Type 2 Diabetes.

Dr Rachel Batterham (centre for diabetes and endocrinology at University College London), said that patients with type 2 diabetes had been cured within a week of the surgery.

As reported by Richard Gray in The Telegraph, read the full article here

Healthy Stores : New Government Initiative

It was announced today that the UK Department of Health are to launch a sceme, starting in the North East, to give corner shops grants to encourage them to stock more fruit and veg on their shelves.

Apparently, there are some neighbourhoods in the North East which are pretty much veg-free zones, and these will be the guinea pigs for this new scheme, which is thought to be rolled out from May 2009.

Shock Horror, Fat Doesn't Automatically Mean Unhealthy

Fat, Not UnhealthyAnyone who is overweight could have told you this many times over, but a recent study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine proves this scientifically.

The findings, based on national health data collected from 5,440 US adults, shows that weight is often not a very reliable measure of health.

Overall, thin people were still metabolically healthier than people who were overweight or obese. But being a normal weight was not a reliable indicator of health. In the study, about 24 percent of thin adults, or about 16 million people, posted unhealthy levels for at least two of the risk factors.

Chris Moyles, "Big Girls Aren't Beautiful"

Chris Moyles - Face for RadioRadio 1 Breakfast DJ, Chris Moyles, played Mika's 'Big Girl, You Are Beautiful', then followed with a discussion that there are no big beautiful girls.  That big girls aren't beautiful.

Chris Moyles, who has a classic face for radio, then went on to ask his team to think of a 'chunky' woman they know, and asked if they were beautiful.  Then asked them to think if they could think of any chunky woman they thought were beautiful.

He claimed there weren't any, with exception of Dawn French.  I used to be a fan of Chris Moyles, and defended him to people who said he was an arrogant, overpaid ******, but I can't bare to listen to him any more either.

Comments like that are going to do wonders for your ratings Chris, well done, keep up the good work.  I'm sure all the big girls in playgrounds around the country are really glad of your comments too.

Q&A with Tracey Carr
Tracey CarrSome of our readers will recognise Tracey Carr from the BBC3 programme “F*** Off I’m Fat”, which was part of the Body Image series on BBC3.  I came to know of Tracey and her business when I was searching for some underwear and clothing that flattered my plus sized curves – not squash them away somewhere!  I’m so pleased that Tracey was able to set aside some of her valuable time to answer some questions for Chocolate Brownie readers.
